Ciriaco De Mita was a member of the Christian Democracy party, which was a major political party in Italy from the late 1940s to the early 1990s. The party was founded by former Prime Minister Alcide De Gasperi and was based on Christian social principles. De Mita was a member of the party from the early 1960s until its dissolution in 1994.
