John Boyd Orr was born in 1884 and died in 1981. He was a Scottish scientist, nutritionist, statesman, and humanitarian. He was the first Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1949 for his work on improving global food production.
