Claude Niépce was born on 7 May 1765 in Chalon-sur-Saône, France. He was the older brother of Nicéphore Niépce, who is credited with being the inventor of photography. Claude Niépce was also an inventor, and he is credited with inventing the first photographic process, which he called heliography. He died on 5 July 1828 in Saint-Loup-de-Varennes, France.
