Nero hated his marriage to Octavia because she was a constant reminder of his mother Agrippina the Younger, whom he had murdered. Octavia was Agrippina's favorite daughter and had been brought up to be her successor. Nero felt that Octavia was plotting against him and that she was not a suitable wife for a Roman emperor.
