Marcus Aurelius Claudius Gothicus, the Roman Emperor from 268 to 270 AD, was originally known as Marcus Aurelius Valerius Claudius. Upon ascending to the throne, he added'Gothicus' to his name in recognition of his victory over the Goths in the Battle of Naissus.
