Invasion of Poland was not part of Stauffenberg's military service. He entered the military in 1926, but was discharged three years later due to health issues. Reinstated in 1933, he participated in the German reoccupation of the Rhineland and the Spanish Civil War. At the outbreak of World War II, he was part of the German campaign in Poland, but saw no combat.
