Pope Clement VII was born as Giulio de' Medici, and was a member of the powerful Medici family. He was known as the Cardinal of Rome before he was elected as Pope in 1523. As Pope, Clement VII faced many challenges, including the Protestant Reformation and the Sack of Rome in 1527. He died in 1534.
