Gene Austin (1900–1972) was an American singer, known for his tenor voice and smooth delivery. He was first promoted by music publisher Irving Berlin, and later by music executive Jack Kapp. Austin's popularity peaked in the 1930s, when he was one of the most popular recording artists in the United States. He is credited with helping to popularize the "crooning" style of singing.
