Columba was a Christian missionary from the kingdom of Dál Riata, which was a Celtic kingdom in Ireland. In the year 563, he founded the monastery of Iona on the island of Iona off the west coast of Scotland. From there, he spread Christianity to the Northern Pictish kingdoms.
