Where did Columba and his companions first land upon arriving in Scotland?

  • Dunaverty

  • Rome

  • Edinburgh

  • York

Answer

Saint Columba and his companions landed at Dunaverty, on the Kintyre peninsula in the west of Scotland, in AD 563. This was the beginning of his mission to Christianise the pagan Picts. Columba founded the monastery of Iona, which became an important centre of learning and culture in the Middle Ages.
