Constans II, also known as Constantine II, was born on 7 November 630. He was the son of the Byzantine Emperor Constantine III and his wife Gregoria. Constans succeeded his father as emperor in 641 at the age of 11, under the regency of his mother and the general Valentinus. He is remembered as a successful military commander who expanded the empire's territories in the Balkans and Italy.
