Caesar was the title held by Constans before he became emperor. This title was given to him by his father, Constantine the Great, in 333 AD. As Caesar, Constans ruled over the western provinces of the Roman Empire, while his brothers Constantine II and Constantius II ruled over the eastern and central provinces, respectively.
