WWE is the current name of the wrestling promotion formerly known as the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). The company was founded in 1952 by Vince McMahon Sr. as Capitol Wrestling Corporation, and changed its name to the World Wide Wrestling Federation in 1979. In 2002, the company was renamed World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) following a legal dispute with the World Wildlife Fund.
