Pope Damasus II was the second German pope. He was born Poppo in Ravengiersburg, Germany. He became a monk and was elected Pope in 1048. He was a strong supporter of the Emperor Henry III and helped to reconcile the Emperor with the German princes. He also worked to improve relations between the Church and the Jews. He died in 1048 and was succeeded by Leo IX.
