Answer
Diana Nyad successfully swam from Havana, Cuba, to Key West, Florida, on August 2, 2013, after five unsuccessful attempts over the course of 35 years. She is the first person to complete the swim without a shark cage. Nyad's first attempt was in 1978, when she was 28 years old. She swam for 41 hours and 46 minutes before she was forced to turn back due to jellyfish stings.
