Hall of Fame defensive end Deacon Jones referred to Dick Butkus as a "well-conditioned animal" because of his impressive athleticism and aggressive playing style. Butkus was a feared defender who was known for his hard-hitting tackles and punishing run defense. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979.
