Bill George was Butkus's predecessor as middle linebacker for the Chicago Bears. George was an All-American at Purdue University and was drafted by the Bears in the first round of the 1951 NFL Draft. He played for the Bears for 15 seasons, making the Pro Bowl eight times and being named an All-Pro six times. George was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1974.
