Edgar Quinet was a French historian and essayist who was born in 1803 and died in 1875. He was the son-in-law of Gheorghe Asachi, a Romanian poet, composer, and politician who was born in 1788 and died in 1869. Quinet was a prolific writer and his work has been translated into many languages. He is best known for his history of the French Revolution, which was published in 1847.
