Scarlatti served the Portuguese and Spanish royal families. He was born in Naples, Italy, in 1685 and began his musical career as a composer for the Neapolitan court. In 1719, he moved to Lisbon, Portugal, where he served as music master to the Portuguese royal family. In 1729, he moved to Madrid, Spain, where he served as music master to the Spanish royal family until his death in 1757.
