A bubble chamber is a particle detector used to study subatomic particles. It contains a superheated liquid, and when a charged particle passes through it, it leaves a trail of bubbles. The pattern of bubbles can be used to identify the particle. Bubble chambers were used to discover many subatomic particles, including the Higgs boson.
