Edith Jones retired as the chief judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in 2012. She had been the chief judge since 2005. She was the first woman to serve as the chief judge of the Fifth Circuit. She was appointed to the Fifth Circuit by President Ronald Reagan in 1982.
