Answer
Eadred became king of England in 946, when he was a little over twenty years old. He was the son of Edmund I and Aelfgifu, and he was chosen to succeed his brother Eadwig after Eadwig was deposed by the nobles. Eadred was a weak king, and he was unable to control the nobles. He died in 955, and he was succeeded by his cousin Edgar.
