The Finnish lichenologist Edvard August Vainio worked as a herbarium curator at two universities during his career. From 1889 to 1901, he was the curator of the Botanical Museum of the University of Helsinki. He then moved to the University of Turku, where he served as the director of the Botanical Museum and Herbarium from 1901 until his retirement in 1929.
