Edward Sapir was born in Lauenburg, Germany in 1884. He was a linguist and anthropologist who is considered to be one of the founders of the field of linguistic anthropology. Sapir was interested in the relationship between language and culture, and he developed a theory of linguistic relativity which states that the language we speak influences the way we think about the world.
