Sharkey was the name given to Edwin King who was an Australian boxer and one of the greatest lightweights of all time. He was born in Sydney, Australia in 1881 and began boxing at the age of 14. Sharkey won the Australian lightweight title in 1900 and then went on to win the world lightweight title in 1901. He lost the title in 1903 but regained it in 1905.
