Eleanor of Aquitaine was imprisoned for nearly 16 years. She was imprisoned by her husband King Henry II of England in 1173 after she joined her sons in a rebellion against him. She was held first at Salisbury Castle and then at various other castles in England. She was finally released in 1189 after Henry's death.
