Eleftherios Venizelos was born on 23 August 1864 in Chania, Crete. He was a Greek statesman who served as Prime Minister of Greece on nine occasions between 1910 and 1933. He was also one of the most influential figures in Greek history and is credited with modernizing the country and securing its independence.
