Elijah Muhammad was a leader of The Nation of Islam. He was born Elijah Poole in Georgia in 1897 and died in Chicago in 1975. He became a follower of Wallace Fard Muhammad in Detroit in 1931 and changed his name to Elijah Muhammad. He took over the leadership of the Nation of Islam after Fard Muhammad disappeared in 1934.
