Zhao Gou was the only son of Huizong to avoid capture by the Jin, who captured Huizong and his other son, Zhao Ji, in 1127. Zhao Gou fled to the south and established the Southern Song dynasty in 1127. The Southern Song dynasty was able to hold out against the Jin for over a century, until the Mongols conquered both the Jin and the Southern Song in 1279.
