Emperor Wen of Sui, whose given name was Yang Jian, was the founding emperor of the Sui dynasty of China. He ruled from 581 to 604 CE. Emperor Wen was a devout Buddhist, and he is credited with promoting the spread of Buddhism throughout China. He built many Buddhist temples and monasteries, and he also sponsored the translation of Buddhist texts from Sanskrit into Chinese.
