The An Shi Rebellion, also known as the Anshi Rebellion, was a major rebellion against the Tang dynasty of China that lasted from 755 to 763. The rebellion began when An Lushan, a general of Sogdian origin serving the Tang government, rebelled against Emperor Xuanzong and captured the Tang capital of Chang'an. At its height, the rebellion controlled much of northern and central China.
