Robert I, Duke of Parma, was the father of Zita. He was a member of the House of Bourbon-Parma and ruled as Duke of Parma from 1854 to 1859. Robert I was a conservative ruler who opposed the unification of Italy and supported the Papal States. He was forced to abdicate in 1859 after Parma joined the Kingdom of Sardinia.
