Enver Pasha became the Minister of War in 1914. He was a leading member of the Committee of Union and Progress (CUP), which had seized power in the Young Turk Revolution of 1908. Pasha was a strong advocate of Ottoman expansionism, and he played a leading role in the decision to enter World War I on the side of the Central Powers.
