Answer
The first Bose–Einstein condensate was synthesized in 1995 by Eric Cornell and Carl Wieman at the University of Colorado, Boulder. They used a laser to cool a cloud of rubidium-87 atoms to a temperature of 170 nanokelvins (-273.144 °C), which is just 170 billionths of a degree above absolute zero.
