Eric A. Cornell and Carl E. Wieman made the first Bose–Einstein condensate together in 1995. They used a method called laser cooling to cool a gas of rubidium atoms to very low temperatures, until they reached a point where the atoms were no longer behaving like individual particles, but instead as a single collective entity.
