After leaving Ditchling, Gill moved to Capel-y-ffin, Wales, a small village in the Brecon Beacons National Park. He settled there with his wife and young family and worked as a farmer and artist. He was a member of the Capel-y-ffin Group of Artists, which included the painters Laura Knight and Ernest Proctor.
