Evander Holyfield became the undisputed cruiserweight champion after defeating both Mike Parkey and Jorge Luis de León in separate fights. He first defeated Parkey in a close and controversial decision in April 1986, then knocked out de León in three rounds in September of that same year. This made Holyfield the first American to hold the undisputed cruiserweight title.
