Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen died on 25 January 1852 in Saint Petersburg, Russian Empire. He was a Baltic German explorer and admiral of the Russian Imperial Navy. He is best known for leading the first Russian expedition to Antarctica, which discovered the continent on 28 January 1820.
