Fanny Blankers-Koen retired from competing in Track and Field in 1955. She was 37 years old at the time and had been a dominant force in the sport for over a decade. Blankers-Koen won four gold medals at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London and four more gold medals at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki.
