Gino Bartali was a famous Italian cyclist who was known as Fausto Coppi's "eternal second." He was born in Ponte a Ema, Italy, in 1914, and started cycling at a young age. He competed in his first Giro d'Italia in 1935, and won the race in 1936 and 1937. He also won the Tour de France in 1938 and 1948.
