Answer
Felipe González joined the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) in 1964, at the age of 18. He was quickly elected to the party's national committee and became a leading figure in the opposition to the Franco dictatorship. González was instrumental in the PSOE's transition to a modern, democratic party and led it to victory in the 1982 general election. He served as prime minister of Spain from 1982 to 1996.
