On 14 October 2012, Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner made a free fall from the edge of space, jumping from a helium balloon 39,045 m (128,100 ft) above Earth's surface, breaking three world records: the highest manned balloon flight, the highest jump from a fixed object, and the fastest free fall. The jump was sponsored by Red Bull and was part of the Red Bull Stratos project.
