Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies died on 29 June 1875 at the age of 72 in his palace in Naples. He had ruled the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies since 1830, but his reign was marked by political instability and economic decline. He was succeeded by his son, Francis II.
