Ferdinand I, in full Ferdinand Maximilian Karl Leopold Maria, reigned as Emperor of Austria from 1835 to 1848. He was a member of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine and the second son of Emperor Francis I and Empress Maria Theresa of Austria. Ferdinand I is best known for his conservative rule and the abdication that followed the revolutions of 1848.
