Saxon. Ferdinand I's mother, Sidonia of Saxony, was a member of the House of Wettin, which ruled the Electorate of Saxony in modern-day Germany. She was the daughter of George, Duke of Saxony, and Barbara Jagiellon, a Polish princess.
