Ferdinand was the Holy Roman Emperor from 1619 to 1637, and he was also the King of Bohemia and Hungary. His predecessor was Matthias II, who was the Holy Roman Emperor from 1612 to 1619. Ferdinand was a member of the House of Habsburg, and he was the son of Emperor Maximilian II and Maria of Bavaria.
