The surname "Çakmak" originated from Fevzi Pasha's military prowess. During his service in the Ottoman army, his commanding officers noticed his talent in artillery and gave him the nickname "Fevzi Çakmak" (Fevzi the Thunder). The nickname eventually became so closely associated with him that it replaced his original surname, Kocabayoğlu, and became his official surname.
