Flavia Pennetta first played in the WTA Finals singles in 2015. The WTA Finals is an annual tennis tournament for the top eight singles players and top eight doubles teams on the WTA Tour. Pennetta qualified for the singles tournament by winning the US Open earlier that year. She reached the semifinals of the WTA Finals, where she lost to eventual champion Agnieszka Radwańska.
