Flinders Petrie died in 1942, after a long and illustrious career as an archaeologist. He was born in England in 1853, and he began his career as an engineer. However, he soon became interested in archaeology, and he began to excavate ancient sites in Egypt and Palestine. He is best known for his work at the Giza Pyramids, where he discovered the Step Pyramid of Djoser.
