France Prešeren was a Slovene poet, writer and politician. He was born in Carniola, which is a region in present-day Slovenia. Prešeren was a key figure in the development of the Slovene language and literature. He is considered one of the greatest Slovene poets of all time. His most famous work is the poem "Zdravljica" ("A Toast"), which is now the national anthem of Slovenia.
